Rotary gets Green Committee update

Dan Bachalis, chairman of the Hammonton Green Committee, discussed efforts to help Hammonton reduce its environmental footprint during the April 19 meeting of the Hammonton Rotary Club at Rocco’s Townhouse. Bachalis said Hammonton is certified with a Bronze rating from Sustainable Jersey, a New Jersey League of Municipalities program to help towns go green. The goal is achieve a Silver rating. Green Committee programs include a demonstration rain garden at the library, road and lake cleanups, promoting landscapes that are friendly to native plants and animals, reducing plastic bag usage, and showing films that explain how global issues relate locally. In the picture  The Green Committee will hold its fifth annual Green Day Festival, Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 at St. Joseph’s High School.
