HAMMONTON – Homemade wine fans were treated to a record number of entries for the 10th annual Hammonton Rotary Club Homemade Wine Event Saturday, March 28, in Elvins Hall at Hammonton Fire House No. 2.
More than 240 guests had the opportunity to sample and judge 94 wines of all types, enjoy good food while raising money for worthwhile community programs.
Wines were judged by a panel of certified wine experts who gathered a week prior to the event to determine first-, second-, and some third-place awards in 21 categories, and a Best of Show overall award.
For the second year in a row, the Best of Show People’s Choice award went to Rod Cramer and Joe Tedesco. This year it was for their 2014 New Jersey, Semi-Sweet Fredonia.
The Best of Show as determined by the professional judges went to Joe Pauline for a 2012 Port Wine Coffee.
The panel of professional judges was led once again by Gary Pavils, Ph.D., Atlantic County agricultural agent, who brought together fellow members of the Dionysian Society to carefully score and evaluate the entries the week before.
The evening also featured a buffet dinner by Rocco’s Townhouse, music by James Ammann of TNT Sound Productions, a Chinese auction of items purchased from and donated by local businesses, and a 50/50 raffle.
Proceeds support the Hammonton Rotary Scholarship Foundation, the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, youth sports, the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) program and the club’s many other local and international humanitarian and service projects.
Photographs of the evening’s winners have been posted on the Hammonton Rotary Club’s Facebook page.
