Hammonton Rotary welcomes President Joe Brown, presents scholarships

HAMMONTON – The Hammonton Rotary Club welcomed Joe Brown as president at its 59th annual installation ceremony Monday, July 18 at Rocco’s Townhouse in Hammonton.

Brown was installed by Rotary District 7640 Governor Ulysses James. Brown accepted the gavel from outgoing President Micky Doto.

Also installed were club officers Karl Wicks as vice president, Robert DeRose as secretary, Jerry Daunoras as treasurer, and Mike Brown as sergeant-at-arms.

Serving on this year’s board of directors are Jim Ammann, Micky Doto, Bill Donahue, Don DeFiccio, Dory Dickson, James FitzPatrick, Mike Hitman, Phyllis Mazzeo, Lori Scotto DeVito and Deana Zingrone.

Hammonton Rotary Foundation Scholarship winners Dante Galletta and Gabrielle Sirolli were introduced by Daunoras.

Galletta, the son of Paul and Toni Anne Galletta, is a 2016 graduate of Hammonton High School who intends to study international business and Chinese as part of a five-year program at Saint Joseph University.

Sirolli graduated from St. Joseph High School and will attend LaSalle University. The daughter of Robert and Jackie Sirolli is enrolling in a five-year speech pathology program there.

Each scholarship is worth $2,000.

Other presentations included past president’s gavel presented by Bill Donahue to outgoing President Micky Doto, and certificates of appreciation to members Robert DeRose, Jose Martinez and Maribeth Capelli for their outstanding work organizing club fundraisers.

District Governor James also presented a Silver Presidential Citation to the club from Rotary International for achieving goals that strengthen Rotary including growing membership, developing sustainable service projects, giving to the Rotary Foundation, and building awareness of Rotary in the community.

Other official club positions affirmed at the meeting include:

Hammonton Rotary Scholarship Foundation and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards co-chairs James FitzPatrick and Maribeth Capelli, Rotary International Foundation chair Phyllis Mazzeo, new membership co-chairs Jose Martinez and Linnea Wentz, and Interact co-chairs Maribeth Capelli and Linnea Wentz.
