The Hammonton Rotary Club presented a $5,000 check to Dr. Kristina Tigro, principal of Warren E. Sooy Elementary School on March 28 to support the school’s fifth-grade basil and begonias greenhouse project.
Basil and begonias are raised and sold by students to cover the cost of fifth-grade student extracurricular projects to make sure that no one is excluded from activities for lack of funds.
The donation will help pay for supplies including pots, soil, plants and seeds. The donation will also help pay for improvements to the irrigation system.
The money for the donation was raised during the Second Annual Hammonton Rotary Fun Shoot, held Nov. 26 at the Pine Valley Gun Club.
Pictured with Principal Tigro are Jerry Daunoras, left, Hammonton Rotary co-treasurer and past president; and Franco Catania, Fun Shoot event chairman and past president.
